Pack 163 Committee Minutes
January 2, 2008 – 7:30 PM

i. Don’t need as much extra candy
ii. The speech at the beginning needed to be shorter and the religion though the foundation of scouts is based in religion, it can be a touchy subject with some parents. Should discuss things like this prior to the meeting.
i. Games:
1. Mini Shot Put – Each boy tries to throw 10 navy beans into a quart jar from a chalk line on the floor
a. TJ will bring beans and jars.
2. Balloon Hammer Throw – Tie an inflated balloon to the end of a string. Each boy throws the “hammer” by the end of the string
a. Ted will bring balloons and string
3. Paper Plate Discus Throw – Boys throw a paper plate from a chalk line. The plate must be held flat in the hand against the palm, with the fingers wrapped over the top and not sailed with thumb and fingers.
a. Eric will bring plates, masking tape and tape measure
4. Giant Shot Put – Boys toss an inflated paper bag, or a bag filled with crumpled newspaper with a string tied around the end to seal it, for distance. Boys make the throw from the shoulder as if it were a shot put.
a. Mike will bring paper bag and tape measure
5. Heel-to-Toe Foot Race – Boys walk 10 feet moving heel-to-toe as fast as possible.
a. No equipment needed other than masking tape.
6. Feather Blow Relay – Blow a feather 25 feet and back, tagging the next player. A straw can be used to direct the airflow.
a. Nancy will bring some downy feathers and straws
7. Feather Race – With one hand, boys carry five feathers on a paper plate for a certain distance. They must pick up any that drop before continuing.
a. Use feathers from game 6.
8. Eggroll Relay – Relay teams use a stick to roll plastic eggs down a course and back.
a. Sue will bring plastic eggs
b. Ted will bring dowels
9. Turtleneck Pass – The first player on each team places a tennis ball or small inflated balloon under his chin. Players pass the ball or balloon from chin-to-chin using no hands until all players have received the object.
a. Nancy will bring a can of tennis balls
10. Standing Broad Grin – Judges measure the width of grins. The widest grin wins.
a. Larry will bring caliper

1. Get boy scouts to help run games –
a. Assign an adult to help out.
b. Sue and Ted will get boy scouts.
2. Ted will bring tape
3. Have dens go around to games together – No timing, just do head to head games.
4. Need awards – Larry will bring candy

iii. Feedback on Event from 2006:
1. What should we do different next time?
i. Some of it was out of control. Den leaders need to keep their dens together better.
ii. Should go around in order on the games.
iv. Get there ½ hour early to set up.

1. Like slide show will play at pack meeting.
i. How did it go?
1. Good.
2. Tigers did not get patches, but Nancy will get them to Mike.
3. Certificates for Tigers were great.
ii. What should we do different next year?
1. Give Tiger’s PW Derby patches to Tigers when Tiger awards are given out if we give them out next year.
2. Project the computer program on the screen to see who is coming in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th.
3. Have Kevin explain methodology of race program.
i. Tigers will weigh in at 6:30
ii. Rest of the cubs will weigh in at 7:00.
iii. District PW Derby date TBD.
iv. At district, all 4 wheels have to be touching on a flat surface. We’ll do this rule, will perform test at weigh-in.
v. Every car gets to race in every lane and against 4 other cars. Program figures out which cars win against which and races fasted cars against fastest cars
vi. Track Setup – Ted will set up track, Sue will try to get him help 5:30 or 6:00
vii. Computer Program – Kevin will send to Eric
viii. Projector – Eric will bring projector, Sue will see if school has portable screen.
ix. Weigh-in – Sue & Eric can help, need one more.
x. Scales – Larry will bring scale
xi. # Stickers for cars – Ted will bring with track
xii. Nancy will get Awards (1st, 2nd, 3rd pins for Tiger and for cubs, also special awards for Tigers, patches for all)
xiii. Ted will bring PW Car repair kit (bucket)
xiv. Ted will bring extension cord
xv. If boy cannot make it, his car can be raced.

3. Arrows for boys crossing over? $23 each – Larry will see if he can get some made cheaper
i. Adults $10, Siblings under 12 $5, Sibling 12 and over are $10, scouts are free, 5 and under are free.
ii. Every adult will pay, even leaders
iii. Charging this will make about $200 for pack.
iv. Larry will want final count by mid February try to get by Feb Committee meeting
v. Need to be sure nothing has nuts
vi. Checks will be written to Pack 163, we’ll reimburse Larry

1. Need to assign duties and calculate final counts – have servers, let people serve themselves seconds
2. Theme – camp theme – need to iron out

4. Discuss slide show – run once with music and dimmed lights, then run continuously

6. Discuss extra ice cream for free siblings 10 – 15?

i. We have someone coming to the pack meeting on January 18 to do the Camp Promotion.
ii. Camp is $255 this year, $50 per kid and $50 per extra leader due by March 15 and balance by May 15.

1. Sunday – Check-in, swim test, etc.
2. Monday Night - Ice Cream Social
3. Tuesday Night - Medieval Dinner (you can wear Medieval clothing if you wish)and Camp wide event
4. Wednesday - Packout (move to Wednesday to curb home sickness)
5. Thursday - BBQ from 5:45 - 6:30
iv. Other:
1. Whittling Chip is only for Bear and Webelos this year.
2. New forms required for Epi-pens and Inhalers (require Dr. Signature)
3. If you carry Epi-pen or inhaler, you need to bring two. 1-for the child, 1-for the health lodge.
