Pack 163 Committee Meeting Minutes

October 5, 2005

 

  1. Town Fair and Parade
    1. How did it go?

                                                              i.      Went well, but could have used better organization vs. doing it at the last minute.  Anne-Marie did a great job doing the fair. 

                                                            ii.      Popcorn was outdated at the fair that we got from the store.  Justin will see if we can take it back.

                                                          iii.      Broke even on the popcorn.  Sold approximately 90 packets of microwave popcorn (6 boxes)

    1. Should we do anything different next year?

                                                              i.      Should order popcorn prior to parade

                                                            ii.      Let people know about the fair/parade in April, let them know about selling popcorn, being in parade, applications.

                                                          iii.      Should look into having a microwave to pop popcorn at the fair.  Would also need a booth with electricity.

                                                          iv.      Sell some small drinks with the popcorn.

                                                            v.      Should have a chairman to coordinate the fair and parade.  Get chairman at the end of this year.

                                                          vi.      Maybe have a tent with Cub Scout activities to attract new kids (set up a camp site, pinewood derby cars, etc.

  1. Scout Signup and Den Setup nights
    1. How did it go?

                                                              i.      Went well.  Got 2 Tiger dens, a new Webelo and 2 bears.  Justin did a nice job with the sign up.

    1. Should we do anything different next year?

                                                              i.      Working on getting books for the Tigers.  Try to get these for sign-up or den setup for next year.  (Neckerchiefs are given out for advancement.)

                                                            ii.      Plan earlier for the registration and get more signs out, maybe have someone go to the classrooms and talk about scouts.

                                                          iii.      Need to advertise to all grades, not just Tigers.

                                                          iv.      Can order fliers from Council that talk about joining Cub Scouts.

                                                            v.      Hand out list of dates and uniform stuff at sign up.

                                                          vi.      Make sure we have books for everyone at the den setup.

                                                        vii.      Do a week between the sign-up and den setup.

                                                      viii.      Dick Trask – asst cub master – Ted will call him.  There is also a gentleman that signed up from Derry who is interested in helping.

  1. October Pack Meeting
    1. Date or location change

                                                              i.      Steven’s Hall, upstairs.  Try to keep it to one adult with one scout. On October 21.  All Den leaders should let their dens know.

                                                            ii.      Must park in a parking spot, not against building.

    1. From Sept:

                                                              i.      Ted will bring in Karate instructor from Tokyo Joe’s to do a demo, talk about street safety, being responsible, etc.

    1. Other items that need to be discussed?

                                                              i.      Advancement – Justin will pick up the stuff. This is typically done by the Treasurer (Brian Sullivan).

                                                            ii.      Turn in apps by October 14 for Pinewood Derby Cars – Justin will take care of this.

  1. November Pack Meeting
    1. From Sept:

                                                              i.      November meeting, look into Parent/Son cake decorating contest.  Thanksgiving theme.  Judge cakes, give out ribbons/certificates, most creative and other themes.  Swap cakes with other boys (maybe pick number from a hat).

                                                            ii.      November 18 at Chester academy.

                                                          iii.      Bring unfrosted cake from home and all frosting and decorations.

                                                          iv.      Popcorn also comes in on the 18th.  Will hand it out at the meeting, 1 den at a time.

                                                            v.      Get some people to arrive early to help sort popcorn.

                                                          vi.      Sue will come up with awards for cakes.

  1. Scouting for Food

                                                              i.      November 12 is scouting for food. 

                                                            ii.      Drop off bags, pick up bags at 8:30 at the Scout Room.

                                                          iii.      Collect on November 19.  Drop off at the Scout Room before noon.

  1. December Pack Meeting
    1. Date or location change

                                                              i.      Look into date or location change next month.

                                                            ii.      Theme: Lego’s for Louisiana.

                                                          iii.      Maybe send toys for Pack 63 in New Orleans or another pack in the area.  Could drop ship books or toys.

                                                          iv.      Justin will work on contacting the troop, Sue will work on contacting a toy company such as Lego to see if they can chip in.  Maybe we can get the Lego catalogs as well.  See if they will ship free or drop ship, and give discount.

                                                            v.      Have boys pick out Lego set to give.

                                                          vi.      Limit to 15 dollars maximum.  Could have den or two or more scouts putting $$ together to buy bigger set.

                                                        vii.      Every den could make a can to put in local stores for people to donate.

  1. Popcorn Sales
    1. Updates on info we need to make everyone aware of

                                                              i.      Den 11 will sell 9 – 12 at Movie Scene October 8.

                                                            ii.      Den 4 will do 12 – 3 on October 8.

                                                          iii.      Den 8 will do 10 – 12 at Dump, Den 1 will do 12 - 2 on October 15.

                                                          iv.      Ted will do October 22 at the Dump, time TBD.

                                                            v.      Den 4 will do October 29 at the Dump.

  1. September 14 Roundtable
    1. How did it go, what were the important points?

                                                              i.      Did not discuss this item

  1. October 12 Roundtable
    1. Who wants to attend?

                                                              i.      Justin is going.

  1. Fall Camporee for Webelos – Weekend of October 15.
    1. From Sept:

                                                              i.      Webelo dens need to sign up by October 7.

                                                            ii.      Recommended that Webelos attend 2 scout meetings prior to camporee.

                                                          iii.      Boy Scouts meet every Monday.

    1. Is there other info we need to notify people of?

                                                              i.      Sheldon will try to get in touch with the Webelo 1 dens.

  1. Pinewood Derby (possible date change?) – Keep for next month’s agenda
    1. From Sept:

                                                               i.      Move to Thursday April 21.  AnneMarie will verify with Chester Academy to see if we can move to this date (need Café and possibly gym).

    1. Did we find out if this new date will work?
  1. Newsletter
    1. Could use more content (Den activity reports, advancement, scout good turns, etc.)

                                                              i.      Den leaders will send in information.  If they send pictures, we will put them on the electronic newsletter on the web page.
