See you next Fall!

This is our final Pack Meeting for the 2006-2007 school year.  We hope you’ve had a great time in Cub Scouts this year!

It has been a long journey from the first days of September 2006 until today.  As we move toward summer vacation don’t put your scout learning on hold.  The summer offers great opportunities to explore the values and skills needed to progress in rank.  Take the time to camp out or partake in a summer activity.  Remember in anything you do, be prepared, know the rules and practice safety at all times.

"Throughout the ages men have gathered

in groups about their campfires and gazed

dreamily into the swirling orange center

of the flame. Fire for untold generations has meant a home, a social center, an altar, a weapon, a protection against cold even the essence of life itself. Perhaps that is why our campfires today cast a nostalgic spell, taking us back through vast, dim ages to those bleak little fires surrounded by our ancestors.

"Especially as a social gathering place and council ring man has enjoyed his fire. At the close of the evening meal, warm, relaxed and well-fed, the ancient man enjoyed tall tales of the hunt, songs, dances, trials of strength, magic of the medicine man, legends of ancient days, awarding of honors, chants to the gods, and beating of the tribal drum.

"Today, as we gather around our own Scout campfires, we span the years between their age and ours; we enjoy songs, tall stories, dances, feats of magic, contests, dramatics, awarding of honors, and the beating of the ceremonial drum.

"An now . . . the ceremonial drum is beating . . . beating assembly to our own Campfire . . . ."Come, let us answer!"

PACK NEWS

Chuck Wagon Recap

The Chuckwagon Derby was held on April 14th, and it was awesome!  We lucked out on the weather, squeezing it between a snow storm and a Nor’Easter rain storm.  We had one wagon pulled by 6 Cub Scouts.  This year's theme was Monster Trucks, and there was a little surprise there this year.  You guessed it - two real Monster Trucks were there to dazzle the crowd!  They could be heard from across the lake!  The Black Widow busted in on the awards ceremony, giving the tired group of scouts a second wind.  We didn't take home any prizes, but we did well - earning 42 Wampums and coming in second place in one of the stations.  We showed off what we learned this year, and had fun while doing it.  There certainly weren't any flies on us

District Pinewood Derby Recap

The District Pinewood Derby was held on May 19th.  In the Tiger race, Kyle Eno took the 3rd place out of 44 racers!  Two of our Cub Scouts came in 1st and 2nd place in the Cub race!  Great job Pack 163!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Pack 163 is looking to fill the following positions:

Training Coach:

Keeping them up to date is the Leader’s Training Coach!  The Coach insures that leaders complete Fast Start and Cub Scout Leader Basic Training.  The Coach encourages participation at monthly roundtables and fosters the purpose, policy and procedures of the chartered organization and Boy Scouts of America.  Training Coach is the first line of information for the Den Leaders.

Round-Up Chair:

Love getting involved upfront?  The round up chair coordinates our annual membership drive or “Round Up” This is what sets the pace for the year.  Ideally we net three to four dens with a strong membership drive in the first two weeks of school.

Secretary:

Stays informed of all programs and informs leaders of resources available.  Maintains a Pack record book and inventory.  Keeps meeting notes and notifies leaders of events.  Collects and catalogs Pack Library as a resource to leaders.

If you’d like to volunteer for any of these positions, please contact Committee Chairman, Eric Stinson.

Please help if you can!
