PACK 163 COMMUNICATOR
Volume 2, Number 9, May, 2006

May 2006 Newsletter

Thanks to everyone for a fantastic year.  I hope all the cubs had fun with their den and pack activities.

All the boys seem to have grown and attained many achievements.  We hope you enjoyed this campout

(of course this is being written before the actual pack meeting so we really hope the rain held off and there was a campout).

This was our last pack meeting for the 2005/2006 year.  The next one will be in September.  Your den leaders will be

in contact with you for the exact dates and location.  Any parents who would like to help the pack are encouraged

to join the committee where we plan and organize the pack meetings, activities, fundraisers, etc. To join, please

contact Eric Stinson at epstinson@chesternhcubscouts.org or 887-7345, or simply show up at a committee meeting.

You can earn $$ for camp by helping the boy scouts with their annual yard sale.

Please contact Ted Young for more information.

PINEWOOD DERBY

Congratulations to all the boys on the Pinewood Derby.  It was a great event with many unique (and fast) cars.

Everyone had fun and many boys took home awards from 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in each of two divisions as well as

Tiger awards ranging from most unique to most scout-like.  A special thank you to all the people who helped

set up, run, and dismantle the derby.

District Pinewood Derby

All 1st place finishers in the Pinewood Derby will be invited to the District Pinewood Derby.

It is in Candia at the Candia Youth AA Field house on May 20.  The time is 7:00 AM for cubs

and 11:00 AM for Tigers.  The cost is $5.

TREES PLANTED AT WASON POND

Chester is a little greener today - and not just because it's Spring!  The Chester Conservation Committee organized
a tree-planting project to green-up Wason Pond.  The Committee purchased 750 seedling trees to fill in some of
the open spaces surrounding Wason Pond.  On April 29th, various community organizations pitched in to plant them
all.  Instead of sleeping in, several Chester Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Senior Citizens spent their
Saturday morning digging holes, planting the 12-18 inch tall trees, and watering them.  It was tough getting out of bed,
but once there, everyone had fun!  The location of each tree was marked with a small orange flag.  Look around for them!

DATES TO REMEMBER

June 24

Wason Pond

Boy Scout Yard Sale

The boy scouts are looking for help at the yard sale on June 24.  They donate a portion of the sales

to the pack and the more people who help out, the more they donate.  Please contact Ted Young if

you need more details.

YEAR END FEEDBACK

Now that the year is drawing to a close, Ted and the pack committee would like to have your feedback on the

2005/2006 program.  We are open to constructive feedback on what you liked and didn’t like as well any

suggestions you may have for next year.  We are constantly looking for ways to improve the program for

the boys.  Please send feedback to epstinson@chesternhcubscouts.org

DEN NEWS

Den 8:  Den 8 had a great den meeting at Wason Pond catching tons of sunfish.  Around dark, David Pierson

even landed a Black Crappie and a Bass.  It proved my perception wrong that there were only sunfish in Wason

Pond.  It was a perfect night for awarding them all their fishing belt loops earned ice fishing in March.

I know the other dens have been busy too… please send any updates to epstinson@chesternhcubscouts.org. to

include in next month’s newsletter (1 week prior to the pack meeting).  Who knows, maybe other dens can get

some ideas from your den.
