HISTORY OF THE

BLUE AND GOLD BANQUET

In 1933 "Cub Leaders' Round Table" suggested Parent / Cub dinners. Soon thereafter, Pack 1 of Michigan City started a tradition of pot-lucks where the dads were to bring utensils made of wood; whittled by the Cub with his dad. In the 1930s father / son 'bean dinners' and 'Cub family dinners' began to become commonplace. Finally, in 1943 the name "Blue and Gold Banquet" first appeared in BSA literature, and became synonymous with celebrating Scouting.

Today, the Blue and Gold banquet is one of the highlights of the program year. It brings together your Pack's families for a dinner and an evening of fun. The meal is important, but even more important is the warm, congenial atmosphere created as families enjoy each other's company and celebrating the Scouts who have now earned their Rank.

DEN NEWS

Den 1Den 1 has completed two activity badges over the past two months. First, they completed the requirements for the Craftsman badge.  They enjoyed several wood-working projects, including the Fleur-de-Lis on display tonight, and crafted various items out of clay, rope, and foam.  Den 1 has also completed their Engineer badge, which was the most exciting badge for them all year.  They loved building electric circuits & catapults, and experimenting with various pulley configurations and bridge designs.  Today, Jamie, Teddy, and Joey are moving up to Webelos II, having earned the Webelos badge.  Congratulations!  They are well on their way to becoming Boy Scouts.

Den 2:  Pack 163's Tiger Cubs have been especially busy since the last Pack Meeting. In late February the entire Den went ice fishing with Den 8 on Lake Onway in Raymond.  We dedicated one Den Meeting to ice fishing instruction and safety. Everybody baited a hook and tended to a line to earn their fishing belt loop.  In March we went to the Chester Fire Department.  We learned about the fire station and got to climb in every fire truck in the garage. Later in March we went to Chester's Public TV station.  Everybody got to work the camera and be on TV!  In our Den meetings we learned proper Flag protocol and learned about the Food Pyramid.  I am proud to say every Tiger has completed all his achievements and all members of Den 2 will earn their Tiger rank at the Blue and Gold.  We have also been practicing a short skit for the Blue and Gold as well!

DEN NEWS

Den 8  Den 8 would like to welcome our newest two members bringing us to 9 scouts.  Garrett White and Zach Bouchard joined Den 8 this month from Den 7 - Welcome aboard!!  Since the last Pack meeting we held an ice fishing day with the Tigers from Den 2.  It was a successful day with a few fish and a TON of fun.  We also went rock climbing at the Sports Zone where we practiced for the trip to Vertical Dreams. Congratulations to all nine boys for earning the Bear badge, Webelos is going to be a lot of fun as we work toward transitioning to Boy Scouts.

Den 10:  Congratulations to all the boys in Den 10!  We have all achieved our Wolf Rank and earned our Gold Arrow Point. We will also be receiving our Rudyard Kipling and National Den Awards tonight.   Watch for Den 10’s skit:  The Mad Scientist.  Block your ears because Den 10 likes to CHEER… Also, be sure to check out our Den Flag and walking sticks!
